Know your surfaces
Acidic cleaners like vinegar work well on glass, chrome and ceramic tile, but they can etch natural stone like marble or granite. On stone, use a pH-neutral stone cleaner only.
Glass shower doors
- Spray with a mix of warm water and white vinegar, wait 10 minutes
- Scrub with a non-scratch sponge and a drop of dish soap
- Rinse and squeegee dry
Tubs, tile and grout
- Use a paste of baking soda and water on grout lines
- Scrub with a small brush, then rinse well
- Never mix bleach with vinegar or ammonia
Taps and shower heads
Wrap fixtures in a cloth soaked with vinegar for 30 minutes to loosen mineral spots, then wipe and polish dry with microfibre.
Prevent build-up
- Squeegee the shower after each use
- Run the exhaust fan for 20 minutes after showers
- A weekly clean keeps scum from hardening
